Creating External Shortcuts
What you’ll learn
Hi there! In this short article, we’re going to cover:
- An example that illustrates how external shortcuts will save you plenty of time by having all of your important links accessible directly from your web desktops!
- How you can create external shortcuts in your web desktops.
What can I do with it?
The external shortcuts feature is extremely powerful and will save you plenty of time.
To illustrate its power, let’s take a creative agency – we’ll call them Minty – that has 30 different clients.
Each of Minty’s 30 clients has a different Google Spreadsheet in which the agency tracks its billable time.
For project management, some of these clients work with Asana, and others with ClickUp or Monday.
Not only that, but for cloud storage, a few of them use Google Drive, others OneDrive, and a couple of them use Box…
This creates a complex digital maze for Minty, which not only needs to stay sane while working across so many different tools but also keep track of each of the clients' links and do it in a centralized way so that all of Minty’s team members will be able to access their systems quickly and conveniently.
That’s where external shortcuts come in.
You can look at them as the final piece in creating the perfect client portal.
External shortcuts, in combination with the ability to create a dedicated web desktop for every client, project, or use case, allow you to create a complete picture and have everything you need to work productively in one centralized environment – a desktop environment.
Create external shortcuts
- Navigate to the web desktop in which you want to create an external shortcut.
- Click on the Quick Actions button on the top menu.
Alternatively, you can right-click with your mouse on the background area of the web desktop (not on files and folders). - Click on New Shortcut.
- In the Title field, give the shortcut a name that will describe where it leads to.
- In the Link field, paste a link to the desired website, and click Create Shortcut.
The link must begin with http:// or https://, otherwise it won’t be accepted.
