Sharing Web Desktops Using Links
What you’ll learn
Hi there! In this article, we’re going to cover:
- How you can share web desktops for viewing using shareable links. This allows you to share web desktops with people using the Viewer access permission without them having to sign up or login.
- How you can check the status of shareable links.
- How you can edit shareable links.
- How you can delete shareable links.
Ready? Let’s dive in.
Prerequisites
- To have more than 2 shareable links active simultaneously, you need to have a Pro license (learn more about Pro).
- To generate a shareable link to a web desktop that was shared with you, you need to be a Manager in that desktop (learn more about Access Permissions).
Generate a Shareable Link
- Navigate to the web desktop you want to generate a shareable link for.
- Click on the Share button on the top menu.
Alternatively, you can right-click with your mouse on the background area of the web desktop (not on files and folders), and click on Share.
- Click on the Share Link tab.
- Enter a description in the Link Description field. This will help you to later identify what is this link and who it’s intended for.
- Choose the number of days you’d like the link to be accessible from the Link Expiration dropdown list.
This will allow you to choose a range of between 7-90 days. After the defined period elapses, the generated link will not work. You can extend that period from the Edit Link menu for a consecutive term.
- Optional – if you want to protect the link with a password, click on the Password switch and enter the desired password in the field below it.
- Click Generate Public Viewer Link.
- A popup will appear with the shareable link. Click on the Copy button, and close the window.
Never share the links and passwords to your web desktops with anyone who you don’t want to have access to them!
- You can always access and copy shareable links that you’ve generated by clicking on Public Links, locating the link you’d like to copy, and then clicking on the Copy Link button.
Check statuses of Shareable Links
- In the Share Link tab, click on Public Links.
- If a shareable link ws never visited, you’ll see the status Never Visited.
- If a shareable link was visited, you’ll see the status Visited followed by when it was visited for the last time.
- To know how many days are left until a link expires, look for the Expiring In value.
Edit a Shareable Link
- In the Share Link tab, click on Public Links.
- Locate the description of the shareable link you want to edit.
- Click on the Edit button.
- There you can edit the link description and contraints.
Delete a Shareable Link
- In the Share Link tab, click on Public Links.
- Locate the shareable link you want to delete.
- Click on the Delete button, and then click OK.
