Frequently Asked Questions

What you’ll learn

Hi there! In this short article, we’re going to cover answers to questions that may arise while using Deskfirst:

Ready? Let’s dive in.

If I have a Pro license, can I be invited as an Editor or Manager to web desktops outside my Team?

Yes!

When you’re subscribed to the Pro Plan, whether by being the Owner of your Team and purchasing your own license or by being a member of a Team, you retain all of the features that come with Pro even on web desktops you’re invited to that are owned by people outside of your team!

For more information, refer to cross-organization permissions.

Can I purchase multiple Pro licenses and assign them to others?

Yes, you can.

We’ve created the Team feature for that purpose.

You can purchase the number of licenses you want anytime, either from the pricing page, or directly from your account, and then assign them to your team members using the Team Management dashboard in your account.

For more information, refer to purchasing additional Pro licenses, and adding Team members.

What is a Team in Deskfirst?

The Team feature allows organizations and companies of any size to assign Pro licenses to their team members and collaborators from a centralized dashboard.

When you invite a user into your Team, he is automatically assigned a Pro license. Having a Pro license allows that user to be invited to any web desktop, with any access permission, even by users outside your team!

For more information, refer to understanding the Team feature in Deskfirst.

How am I billed when I add new members to my Team?

To ensure fair and accurate charges, when you purchase licenses for your Team, we’ll charge a prorated cost for the additional licenses until the end of your billing cycle.

This means that if, for example, you purchased a single Pro license on January 1st, and on January 15th you decided to purchase 10 additional licenses for your Team, the cost of these 10 licenses will be prorated to the number of days left until the end of the billing cycle – whether it’s monthly or yearly.

What happens if I cancel my Pro subscription?

If you choose to cancel your Pro subscription, your web desktops and files will be scheduled for deletion and you’ll have a 30-day grace period. In some cases, as described in the article below, not all web desktops will be deleted.

In addition to that, you won’t have the Editor and Manager access permissions on shared web desktops until you upgrade to Pro again.

For more information, refer to what happens when Pro is canceled?.

How can I cancel my Pro subscription?

If you choose to cancel anyway, refer to canceling Deskfirst Pro.

Is the free Starter Plan really free?

Yes! No strings attached.

You can sign up in less than a minute without any credit card and start enjoying Deskfirst! If you like it, we strongly recommend upgrading to Pro so you can enjoy the fully-featured product.

Is my data safe?

Deskfirst understands the importance of keeping data safe, therefore, we apply a broad range of security practices to protect user data. More information about the security measures we apply can be found on our security practices page.

We also encourage users to keep their login credentials secret and safe, and share their web desktops safely. To promote safer sharing, Deskfirst offers different features that allow users to control the duration of access and identification of invited users.

Can a user without a Pro license be invited to another user’s web desktop?

Sure!

In this case, the only limitation is that the invited user won’t have the ability to enjoy access permission higher than Viewer, which will prevent him from taking full advantage of Deskfirst’s collaboration capabilities.

For more information, refer to understanding access permissions.

Can I share a web desktop with a collaborator who doesn’t have a Deskfirst account?

Yes, you can!

The best option is to share the desired web desktop using an invite. This will send the person you want to collaborate with an email inviting them to sign-up for Deskfirst. After they sign-up, they’ll immediately gain access to the web desktop you invited them to! For more information, refer to sharing web desktops using invites.

If you prefer, you can also create a shareable link and send it to anyone you want to have access to the web desktop. This will allow them to view and download files without creating an account. For more information, refer to sharing web desktops using links.

What’s the purpose of Team Roles?

As we’ve mentioned before, the Team feature allows organizations and companies of any size to assign Pro licenses to their team members and collaborators from a centralized dashboard.

To make this feature even more useful, we’ve created in addition to the default Member Role, the Admin Role. This role is assigned by the Team Owner, and it allows that person to add new members to the Team, which will automatically assign them a Pro license, and remove members from the Team, which will revoke their Pro license.

For more information, refer to understanding Team Roles.

Can I change my profile image?

Sure!

There are two ways to change your profile picture:

  • If you signed up to Deskfirst using your Google account, you can change your profile image directly from your Google profile.
  • And if you signed up to Deskfirst using your email address, you can change your profile image through Gravatar.
